I love shopping, but more than shopping, I love a good deal. I am always looking at sales and clearance racks, but my favorite is consignment shopping. I've been to a few consignment stores, but it's a hit or miss, and you have to go frequently, which isn't ideal in my one-car situation. I love going to the big pop up consignment sales that have thousands of items at one time, like Kidsignments at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, but it only comes around twice a year, so I'm stuck in between the sale dates.

VarageSale, a virtual garage sale, has just launched 10 new communities in Georgia and now covers the entire Atlanta and Savannah areas. You may have noticed ads for it everywhere, I know I saw it all over my facebook newsfeed. I always scrolled past it, till a friend mentioned I should check it out.

VarageSale is a free social marketplace app that allows families to buy and sell affordable secondhand items in their neighborhoods. Who doesn't love the ease and convenience of apps! Millions of members in local, family-friendly communities across the U.S., Canada and around the globe use VarageSale for free at VarageSale.com and on the mobile app, available on iOS and Android devices.

To mark the Georgia launch, they surveyed 500 Georgia parents and found some interesting data about their shopping and spending habits.

1. Most parents have no problem buying secondhand items to save money (I know I don't!)

2. Their kids can’t tell the difference between old and new toys anyway (makes great presents!)

3. Spending and clutter are hurting parents’ love lives (not only does household clutter kills the mood but it causes disagreements over how much money is being spent)

4. On average, Georgia kids from kindergarten to 8th grade only play with 36% of their toys on a regular basis (I'd say even less for my 5th grader!)

5. More than half (53%) of Georgia parents have regifted one of their children’s toys (I have!)

VarageSale was founded by a former elementary teacher, Tami Zuckerman, who was buying and selling items locally while pregnant with her son. She convinced her programmer husband, Carl Mercier, to create a user friendly mobile app that offered a better user experience than existing classifieds sites or social networks.

VarageSale has a current fundraiser with the PTA in Georgia thru November 26 .

VarageSale will donate $10 to their local PTA.  You can find information HERE

With the Holidays coming up, this is the perfect time to check out VarageSale to sell your old items to make money, as well as get new-to-you items for your kids. I know I've found great holiday dresses and toys for a fraction of the cost of retail!

VarageSale is free and easy to use:
1. First, users should download the VarageSale app for iPhone or Android or visit www.varagesale.com
2. Users sign up for free with Facebook Connect and ask to join the community closest to them. (FB Connect allows us
to know that you are a real person and to populate your VarageSale profile with your real name and photo to ensure
our communities remain trusted and friendly)
3. A community admin will review their request and accept them usually that same day.
4. Once accepted, users can buy or sell items and communicate with other members.
5. To buy an item, you can comment on it and send a private message to the seller to work out the details such as when and where to meet.
6. To sell an item, you can take a photo with the app, write a description of the item, choose a category, set a price and
post all generally in less than 30 seconds.
