Camino Real: Atlanta Ballet Takes On Tennessee Williams' Work

Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta, GA
For this Atlanta Ballet performance, choreographer Helen Pickett drew inspiration from Tennessee Williams' challenging, surreal play Camino Real. The story is told from the perspective of Kilroy, a character based on patriotic World War II iconography. The work grapples with human mortality, the burning desire to connect and the will to live. Pickett's production aims to mirror Williams' words, which have been described as "magical realism for the stage." The Atlanta Ballet Orchestra will perform a newly commissioned score for this full-length ballet. $24.85 - $73.60

Atlanta Ballet's Modern Choreographic Voices
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta, GA
On the heels of yet another acclaimed season, Atlanta Ballet spotlights the work of some of the hottest contemporary choreographers on the scene today, including Ohad Naharin, Alexei Ratmansky and Gina Patterson. All three innovative works, performed by Atlanta Ballet during past seasons, return now due to popular acclaim. Award-winning Israeli dance phenom Naharin, famed for his innovative movement language known as Gaga, brings back Minus 16 after the recent overwhelming critical response to this unique, celebratory work with eclectic music ranging from Dean Martin to traditional Israeli music. Ratmansky's credentials are impressive as well -- the former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, he's currently artist-in-residence at American Ballet Theatre. This program features his Seven Sonatas. Gina Patterson's Quietly Walking, an examination of man versus nature, was termed a "polished balletic masterpiece" by Dance Informa magazine. $24.85 - $46.00

Atlanta Ballet: Contemporary Works Result in MAYhem
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta, GA
The talented performers of Atlanta Ballet let loose this spring with their annual showcase of company premieres from some of today's cutting-edge choreographers, putting a contemporary capper on another exciting season of dance. Cacti is Alexander Ekman's whimsical, tongue-in-cheek salute to the absurdity of the avant garde, while Yuri Possokhov's piece Classical Symphony is described as an "exhilarating and bold display of full-throttle academic pure dance" by The New York Times. A former member of the Bolshoi, Possokhov now serves as the San Francisco Ballet's resident choreographer. Accompanied by an exciting live score, the ethereal Angel's Share comes courtesy of John Heginbotham, who created the dance for Atlanta Ballet's Wabi Sabi 2014 summer season. Heginbotham's the recent winner of the prestigious Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, who also choreographed a pair of operas for designer-director Isaac Mizrahi. $24.85 - $46.00
