iCoffee Opus Single Serve Brewer Review

February 13, 2015
I am a little late to the game of Single Serve Brewers and K-Cups. I am not a big coffee drinker and didn't feel like the expense of one (and the K-cups!) was worth it. But boy oh boy, did the iCoffee Opus Single Serve Brewer change my mind! It may be the worse (and best) thing to happen to me, because I use it every day, and in actuality multiple times a day and it takes up as much space as my traditional coffee brewer.

The iCoffee came with a sample pack, of coffee and tea K-cups, but R really likes his hazelnut Macchiatos from Starbucks, so we headed to the store to get his preferential coffee. Seeing that K-cups were pretty pricey, he opted to get a bag of coffee and use the reusable K-cup that came along with the iCoffee. I am a huge fan of Dunkin Donuts Chai Tea, although I don't get it as often as I'd like, because there are few locations near me as well as they are out of the way. I love that I could use Chai Latte K-cups, because quite honestly, making a Chai Latte from scratch is a little daunting. Although, I did find a few recipes on Pinterest for a DIY Chai Tea mix that can be used in reusable K-cups, and will trying them out soon!

Why should you get an iCoffee, well there's 10 reasons below:

You're too much in a rush to get out the door to wait for a pot to brew. The iCoffee serves up a hot cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in less than a minute. I can touch "brew" and by the time my shoes and jacket are on, it's ready.

You only want one cup. I do only want one cup of Chai Tea at a time, and R only drinks one cup of coffee a day. We don't need a full pot of anything.

K-Cups and K-style cups gives you diversity: Have you checked out the selection of K-Cups recently? There's like a million choices! The great thing with K-cups is everyone can get their favorite (even guests that seldom visit your home), and with the wide selection, you can be a little daring and try something new. The iCoffee also uses K-style cups, so you can use OneCup, RealCup, and any other brand of cups.

Skip the Lines, and for that matter, getting dressed & driving: Have you ever been first in line at a Starbucks drive-thru? If you have, that's quite some feat. I am usually at least 3rd in line! Skip the long lines... and you can even skip leaving the house if all you're craving is a pumpkin spice latte! Just grab a K-cup!

Double your coffee, or just save the extra money! Even though K-cups are pricey, it's still way cheaper than buying coffee outside the home. Even my Chai Latte K-Cups saved me half of what I would have spent at DD. Soooo, that means I can buy MORE coffee... or I can just save the extra money, hmm, I don't know, maybe for a vacation to Disney World....

It's adjustable! I can choose to brew for 8oz (as most K-cups recommend) or 6oz if I want stronger, or 10 oz if I want weaker...You can adjust it from 4oz to 12oz. The 4oz is great for iced coffee. Although this system only brews hot, I know many people who brew their hot coffee twice as strong and add ice to make ice coffee. Additionally, mugs come in different sizes, as well as tea cups... so you will never have an overflowing cup, or a half cup with this feature.

It's affordable! Sure, it seems pricey compared to traditional coffee brewers, but now at $139 or under (with sales & coupons) it's actually more affordable. You can also save by using less coffee (for a cup vs a pot) and by using reusable K-cups. The iCoffee is available at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I am always getting 20% off coupons from them (Or a similar coupon) Save on K-cups too by buying in bulk at big-box stores, using coupons, and checking sales.

It's portable! If I was to go on said vacation to Disney World, I could take my iCoffee Single Serve Brewer with me (and my K-cups). Sure, maybe the hotel I'm staying at will have a coffee maker.. but I'm on vacation.. I don't have time to "wait" for a pot to brew, or clean it out after R makes his coffee so I can make mine. But more importantly, I won't be able to enjoy my delicious Chai Lattes, because I can't make them without a K-cup!

Makes Great Gifts: The iCoffee is perfect for my family, but I can definitely see this as a perfect HS Graduation gift for someone heading off to college, or for a housewarming or bridal gift. It's even great for a baby shower.. because new moms (and dads) NEED coffee.

We have been using the iCoffee daily, and I highly recommend it. It's very simple to use even my 9 year old can use it (to make hot chocolate of course). It doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles and millions of options. It's basically one-touch, which is all I need and also means I won't have to worry about a lot of maintenance or upkeep. It's simple, practical, time saving, convenient and affordable - and not too bad looking either. I love the black color and sleek design and the blue light that glows when it's brewing.

You can get one online, at select retailers, and at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
