The Pirate Fairy is the fifth movie in the Disney Fairies collection and like the others, it does not disappoint. When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina steals Pixie Hollow's all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.

Tinker Bell has been one of my all-time favorite characters. She may be better known by the younger generation as a Pixie Hollow Fairy with her fairy friends but her origin is from Peter Pan, and this latest movie ties in with her origins by introducing the cabin boy, James, who will eventually be known as Captain Hook. This takes place before he loses hand and we also meet a baby croc who will eventually be the demise of his hand, Tick-Tock the Crocodile. We also learn where the clock ticking sound he emits comes from! Tick Tock is such a CUTIE! and I have to admit, James was very sweet too (before he showed his true colors).
The Pirate Fairy is great because it adds a market out there that was lacking, girl pirates. Little girls love to dress up like a pirate as much as they like dressing up as fairies and princesses, but finding friendly, and pretty pirates to emulate has been difficult. Granted by definition pirates are bad, but this film also shows the power of forgiveness and redemption, and of course friendship. It's a great empowering story for little girls. It's a funny and action-packed movie that all little kids will enjoy and it was a fun watch for adults too.
It's on sale right now at most major retailers, so head on out and grab it to add to your Disney collection.
Disclosure: I was invited to a screening of this movie, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
