I was highly skeptical when I saw the first post pop-up on my newsfeed about Oil Pulling. And as I saw more and more posts, I figured it's another crazy fad that will pass in time. Then... I saw all the testimonials on it's validity and effects by trusted friends and I knew, having some of the issues it alleviated, that I had to try it.
As I researched the what, how, and whys of oil pulling, I discovered that the most ancient form uses sesame oil, while most modern people were using coconut oil. Oil pulling is basically using oil as a mouthwash, swishing it around your mouth and spitting it out. As I was debating which oil to start with, GuruNanda reached out to see if I would like to try their Pulling Oil, oral oil detox, that consists of sesame oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, and peppermint oil. I loved that it had all the effective oils, as well as the peppermint smell and taste that was reminiscent of mouthwash, so I said yes!
The directions state, as you would use with any of the aforementioned oils, to place 1 tablespoon or less of Pulling Oil in your mouth, pushing the oil between your teeth for 2-3 minutes. For better results, you may increase the time period slowly, up to 15 minutes, if you can comfortably. Very important: Spit it out (in a trash can, as not to clog up your drain). Then wash your mouth thoroughly with water. Some people swish with salt water afterwards, but that was not in the directions on this bottle. Finally you brush your teeth as you normally would.
It is important that you do not swallow the oil, as it is toxic. It will be toxic because you are pulling toxins out of your body. Keep out of reach of children, and contact a physician right away if ingested. I was pretty paranoid about swallowing the oil, but don't be... relax and stay calm (but not too calm, you forget to spit it out!) It didn't state how often to do this, but I found some people do it 2-3 times a week and some do it daily. I did it more often the first week as I was swishing for a shorter period of time. As I progressed to swishing for 15 minutes at a time, I decreased to doing the oil pulling only on the weekends.

There are long lists of things oil pulling helps with. Some that I find very interesting and to be true are; clearing acne, whitening teeth, reducing bad breath, and believe-it-or-not curing a hangover! Don't believe me? Then try it for yourself!
Take the plunge, and try GuruNanda, if only once a week. It's currently on Amazon for under $15, and at one tablespoon at a time, it will last you a long time. You will reap the benefits and positive side effects, and live a healthier life.
