REVIEW: Hollywood Wax Museum, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Over thanksgiving break, we packed the trunk of a Mazda 3 and took a road trip 6 hours away to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a short stay at the Crown Reef Resort. While there we visited many local attractions including the Hollywood Wax Museum, which provided us with 2 complimentary tickets for review purposes. We were definitely thankful for the Mazda 3's keyless entry and automatic windshield wipers the day we visited the museum because it was raining cats and dogs. When we arrived in the parking lot R really believed it was closed becasue we were the only ones there. It was open, but we were the first visitors of the day, and I guess the only crazy ones willing to brave the weather. I was actually very happy, because that meant we basically had the museum to ourselves.

As you enter, you get to take a really cute photo depicting you (and your family) in the clutches of King Kong. Best of all - at the end of your museum visit, there is a kiosk that has a survey you could fill out to get a coupon to redeem for a free photo, so we got an amazingly awesome, and free souvenir of our visit to the Hollywood Wax Museum.

You then follow the red carpet throughout the museum to see wax figures situated to the right and left of the carpet. You're encouraged to take photos, and we took A LOT!. We took photos with almost all the figures except a few. There's one of Hugh Hefner, which of course I couldn't have MacGirl take a pic wih. And she chose not to take a pic with Justin Beiber, hey can you blame her. She's also very senstivie to all things scary and gruesome so she didn't take photos in the Monsters Hall where they had Jason, and Freddy Kruegar among other iconic figures.  There are different sections in the museum, depicting wax figures of a similar interest, like actors, singers, and tv/movie characters. One figure we didn't expect to see was MacGirl's favorite female singer Selena Gomez (although now it's a toss up with Ariana Grande)

More people started coming in after us, and by the time we were ready to leave, there was a line at the entrance, so I'm happy we arrived early and got to browse the museum at our own leisure. It's open really late too, when most of the other attractions are already closed, so it's easy to fit into your itineary when visiting Myrtle Beach.

I will admit that the wax figures weren't up to par as maybe another more well-known wax museum, but for it's affordable price of admission, it's vicinity to the the local hotels, and for the amount and variety of figures it has, it's definitely worth a visit. MacGirl really enjoyed seeing and taking pics of the figures and reading the notable facts about the real person that inspired the wax figure.
In addition to the Wax Museum there were two other attractions in the building, Outbreak and Hannah's Maze of Mirrors. They are for braver souls than MacGirl and I so we did not partake of them, but maybe the next time we visit we will.
