University of Government Affairs at Tucker Returns

August 22, 2019

The City of Tucker is inviting all residents and other stakeholders to learn more about their City at a six-session education course, the University of Government Affairs at Tucker.

UGA Tucker (not affiliated in any way with the University of Georgia) will give participants deeper insight into how the City government functions, as well as into the partnership between the City, DeKalb County and state agencies. This course will take place over a six-month period, meeting for two hours on the second Tuesday starting in September. It will be led by City staff, who will take participants inside the daily workings of City Hall, the City Hall Annex and Tucker Recreation Center. The program graduated nearly two dozen students from its inaugural class, the Class of 2019.

“Response to UGA Tucker last year was overwhelming,” says City-Community Connector Sonja Szubski. “The students who enrolled were business leaders, community organizers, stay-at-home moms; it ran the gamut. We’re now looking to enroll a new class, people who want to walk in the shoes of our City staff, seeing the decisions they have to make and the priorities they have to balance each day to make Tucker a better place.”

Participants can sign up online at tuckerga.gov/ugatucker and can email any questions to sszubski@tuckerga.gov.
