By Shawntrease‌ ‌Richard‌ , a local mom in the community guest contributer December 2, 2020

It’s‌ ‌hard‌ ‌enough‌ ‌being‌ ‌a‌ ‌teenage‌ ‌girl‌ ‌without‌ ‌a‌ ‌worldwide‌ ‌pandemic‌ ‌stopping‌ ‌ you‌ ‌and‌ ‌giving‌ ‌you‌ ‌more‌ ‌limitations‌ ‌then‌ ‌your‌ ‌mom‌ ‌could‌ ‌ever‌ ‌come‌ ‌up‌ ‌with.‌ ‌During‌ ‌this‌ ‌pandemic‌ ‌I've‌ ‌seen‌ ‌some‌ ‌extreme‌ ‌growth‌ ‌and‌ ‌maturity, from‌ ‌watching‌ ‌the‌ ‌news‌ ‌to‌ ‌learning‌ ‌what‌ ‌can‌ ‌be‌ ‌done‌  ‌in‌ ‌order‌ ‌for‌ ‌us‌ ‌all‌ ‌to‌ ‌stay‌ ‌safe.‌ ‌When‌ ‌you‌ ‌see‌ ‌this‌ ‌type‌ ‌of‌ ‌ growth‌ ‌all‌ ‌I‌ ‌can‌ ‌do‌ ‌is‌ ‌stand‌ ‌back‌ ‌and‌ ‌be‌ ‌proud.‌ ‌These‌ ‌two‌ ‌young‌ ‌ladies‌ ‌have‌ ‌taken‌ ‌some‌ ‌extraordinary‌ ‌measures‌ ‌to‌ ‌still‌ ‌make‌ ‌their‌ ‌goals‌ ‌happen‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌face‌ ‌of‌ ‌Covid-19.‌ ‌These‌ ‌young‌ ‌ladies‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌in‌ ‌girl‌ ‌scouts‌ ‌since‌ ‌elementary‌ ‌school‌ ‌and‌ ‌now‌ ‌they‌ ‌are‌ ‌sophomores‌ ‌in‌ ‌high‌ ‌school.‌ ‌Each‌ ‌scout‌ ‌has‌ ‌earned‌ ‌bronze, silver‌ ‌and‌ ‌now‌ ‌working‌ ‌on‌ ‌their‌ ‌gold‌ ‌award.‌ ‌They‌ ‌are‌ ‌twin‌ ‌sisters‌ ‌and‌ ‌their‌ ‌projects‌ ‌are‌ ‌housed‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌location.‌ ‌Sarah‌ ‌is‌ ‌creating‌ ‌a‌ ‌Safety‌ ‌For‌ ‌Kids‌ ‌Center‌ ‌and‌ ‌Samantha‌ ‌is‌ ‌creating‌ ‌a‌ ‌Preschool‌ ‌Children's‌ ‌Library.‌ ‌Both‌ ‌projects‌ ‌are‌ ‌centered‌ ‌on‌ ‌education.‌ ‌

As‌ ‌a‌ ‌Girl‌ ‌Scout,‌ ‌you‌ ‌are‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌sisterhood‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌World‌ ‌Association‌ ‌of‌ ‌Girl‌ ‌Guides‌ ‌and‌ ‌Girl‌ ‌Scouts,‌ ‌a‌ ‌movement‌ ‌composed‌ ‌of‌ ‌more‌ ‌than‌ ‌10‌ ‌million‌ ‌girls‌ ‌worldwide‌ ‌who‌ ‌are‌ ‌using‌ ‌their‌ ‌talents‌ ‌to‌ ‌positively‌ ‌affect‌ ‌their‌ ‌communities.The‌ ‌Girl‌ ‌Scout‌ ‌Gold‌ ‌Award‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌most‌ ‌prestigious‌ ‌award‌ ‌that‌ ‌Girl‌ ‌Scout‌ ‌Seniors‌ ‌and‌ ‌Ambassadors‌ ‌can‌ ‌earn.‌ ‌

 ‌Each‌ ‌girl‌ ‌had‌ ‌to‌ ‌complete‌ ‌a‌ ‌proposal‌ ‌package‌ ‌and‌ ‌budget‌ ‌and‌ ‌they‌ ‌had‌ ‌to‌ ‌figure‌ ‌out‌ ‌ways‌ ‌to‌ ‌raise‌ ‌money‌ ‌for‌ ‌their‌ ‌projects‌ ‌without‌ ‌actually‌ ‌coming‌ ‌face‌ ‌to‌ ‌face‌ ‌with‌ ‌people‌ ‌due‌ ‌to‌ ‌covid-19.They‌ ‌had‌ ‌to‌ ‌get‌ ‌very‌ ‌creative,‌ ‌they‌ ‌decided‌ ‌to‌ ‌write‌ ‌support‌ ‌letters‌ ‌to‌ ‌mail‌  ‌friends‌ ‌to‌ ‌outline‌ ‌what‌ ‌the‌ ‌projects‌ ‌were‌ ‌about.‌ ‌They‌ ‌also‌ ‌created‌ ‌a‌ ‌facebook‌ ‌page‌ ‌and‌ ‌amazon‌ ‌wishlist‌ ‌and‌ ‌reached‌ ‌out‌ ‌to‌ ‌former‌ ‌gold‌ ‌award‌ ‌recipients‌ ‌via‌ ‌zoom‌ ‌to‌ ‌discuss‌ ‌tips‌ ‌and‌ ‌other‌ ‌things‌ ‌they‌ ‌could‌ ‌do.‌ ‌All‌ ‌ideas‌ ‌were‌ ‌conducive‌ ‌for‌ ‌both‌ ‌projects,‌ ‌immediately‌ ‌the‌ ‌girls‌ ‌got‌ ‌right‌ ‌to‌ ‌work.‌ ‌

They‌ ‌reached‌ ‌out‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌preschool‌ ‌they‌ ‌gave‌ ‌them‌ ‌a‌ ‌location‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌projects.‌ ‌The‌ ‌girls‌ ‌then‌ ‌proceeded‌ ‌to‌ ‌create‌ ‌detailed‌ ‌workdays‌ ‌with‌ ‌their‌ ‌gold‌ ‌award‌ ‌coach‌ ‌and‌ ‌project‌ ‌advisors.‌ ‌They‌ ‌utilized‌ ‌having‌ ‌a‌ ‌large‌ ‌family‌ ‌to‌ ‌assist‌ ‌them‌ ‌on‌ ‌making‌ ‌the‌ ‌work‌ ‌days‌ ‌flow‌ ‌better.‌ ‌They‌ ‌had‌ ‌a‌ ‌few‌ ‌volunteers‌ ‌managing‌ ‌the‌ ‌online‌ ‌wish‌ ‌list‌ ‌and‌ ‌promoting‌ ‌them‌ ‌on‌ ‌social‌ ‌sites.‌ ‌Redeemer‌ ‌church‌ ‌was‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌assist‌ ‌with‌ ‌some‌ ‌furniture‌ ‌they‌ ‌purchased‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌funds‌ ‌were‌ ‌used‌ ‌for‌ ‌their‌ ‌children's‌ ‌ministry.‌ ‌So‌ ‌as‌ ‌she‌ ‌was‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌buy‌ ‌she‌ ‌was‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌bless‌ ‌their‌ ‌ministry‌ ‌as‌ ‌well.‌ ‌Our‌ ‌local‌ ‌Fedex‌ ‌did‌ ‌an‌ a‌mazing‌ ‌and‌ ‌affordable‌ ‌job‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌banner‌ ‌printing‌  ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌projects.‌ ‌A‌ ‌few‌ ‌workdays‌ ‌they‌ ‌were‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌have‌ ‌some‌ ‌volunteers‌ ‌come.‌ ‌Their‌ ‌gold‌ ‌award‌ ‌coach‌ ‌is‌ ‌in‌ ‌healthcare‌ ‌so‌ ‌they‌ ‌knew‌ ‌the‌ ‌restrictions‌ ‌to‌ ‌take;‌ ‌they‌ ‌were‌ ‌in‌ ‌separate‌ ‌rooms,‌ ‌masks‌ ‌required‌ ‌signs‌ ‌posted‌ ‌and‌ ‌temps‌ ‌were‌ ‌taken‌ ‌and‌ ‌social‌ ‌distancing‌ ‌was‌ ‌done.‌ ‌Watching‌ ‌this‌ ‌happen‌ ‌is‌ ‌truly‌ ‌amazing‌ ‌seeing‌ ‌teens‌ ‌see‌ ‌what‌ ‌the‌ ‌limitations‌ ‌are,‌ ‌abiding‌ ‌by‌ ‌them‌ ‌and‌ ‌still‌ ‌being‌ ‌able‌ ‌to‌ ‌set‌ ‌goals‌ ‌and‌ ‌achieve‌ ‌them,‌ ‌even‌ ‌if‌ ‌it's‌  ‌slowly‌ ‌is‌ ‌always‌ ‌good.‌ ‌It's‌ ‌even‌ ‌better‌ ‌when‌ ‌the‌ ‌project‌ ‌is‌ ‌Community‌ ‌Service.‌ ‌Community‌ ‌Service‌ ‌is‌ ‌significant;‌ ‌it‌‌ ‌is‌ ‌to‌ ‌help‌ ‌the‌ ‌ones‌ ‌in‌ ‌need,‌  ‌its‌ ‌so‌  ‌important‌ ‌to‌ ‌do‌ ‌community‌ ‌service‌  ‌it‌ ‌connects‌ ‌us‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌community‌ ‌by‌ ‌improving‌ ‌it,‌ ‌and‌ ‌making‌ ‌it‌ ‌a‌ ‌better‌ ‌place‌ ‌for‌ ‌all‌ ‌of‌ ‌us.‌ ‌Seeing‌‌ ‌young‌ ‌people‌ ‌give‌ ‌back‌ ‌is‌ ‌always‌ ‌great.‌ ‌Seeing‌ ‌them‌ ‌put‌ ‌the‌ ‌girl‌ ‌scout‌ ‌law‌ ‌and‌ ‌promise‌  ‌into‌ ‌action‌ ‌throughout‌ ‌this‌ ‌project‌ ‌is‌ ‌amazing.‌ ‌The‌ ‌girls‌ ‌look‌ ‌to‌ ‌see‌ ‌their‌ ‌projects‌ ‌ready‌ ‌for‌ ‌use‌ ‌by‌ ‌the‌ ‌preschool‌ ‌in‌ ‌mid‌ ‌December‌ ‌2020.‌
