Business Spotlight: Young, Gifted, and Black in Stone Mountain

Our Local Bookstore Needs Our Support

By Rachel Horlacher, Publisher of Snellville-Grayson-Stone Mountain Macaroni Kid February 25, 2021

I have the pleasure of working right by a gem of a bookstore in Stone Mountain, Young, Gifted, and Black. During my lunch break one day, I decided to stop by and speak with the owner, Sandra. It truly was a pleasure learning about her past and why she started this book store to celebrate all diversity. Sandra truly cares about the children growing up near Stone Mountain that might not have the opportunity to know their past and celebrate their unique cultures. You could feel the love rolling off of Sandra. It was a true pleasure taking the time out to get to know this gem of a woman.

The bookstore was quaint and I could tell it was a happening place pre-pandemic. There were books ranging in topics from biographies, children's board books, to adult books which inspire us all to be better people. Let's try to rally behind her and keep her in business. Thankfully, this is not their only source of income, but she did have the unfortunate timing of opening late 2019 before everything shut down. Keep an eye out for when restrictions start lifting for events happening here.

It is quite difficult to find this hidden gem. From the outside, look for letters saying 'Books' above her store. The address says Stone Mountain Hwy, but it is in between the Goodwill and the Beall's shopping center outside of Stone Mountain Park.
