| Outside the Box, Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s first featured exhibit of 2024 will empower kids’ imaginations to run wild with good, old-fashioned fun. Plain boxes are transformed into extravagant bridges, everyday cylinders are made into hi-tech rockets and basic blocks are used to make adventurous obstacle courses. Outside the Box, which debuted in 2014, will inspire children (and adults) to become creative thinkers while discovering the building blocks of math, engineering and technology. Families can return to the Outside the Box exhibit each month from Jan. 20 through May 5 for a new learning experience, as feature activities and programming change monthly. “Since it was first unveiled nearly a decade ago, we’ve been eager to bring back the amazing Outside the Box exhibit, which was developed by the Children’s Museum of Atlanta team, to once again inspire creative thought, innovation and exploration,” said Executive Director Edwin Link. “This exhibit offers the opportunity for children and parents to actively engaging in imaginative play while learning how to collaborate to make forts, obstacle courses and more!” |
The exhibit features the Construction Courtyard, which will take up the majority of the Morph Gallery. Guests will have access to various building materials, including cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes as well as drafting tables to allow guests to plan out their designs in advance. Design challenge cards will be available in the Construction Courtyard to bring little builders the opportunity to solve a problem by creating a specific structure, like a castle or a bridge, with the fun building materials available. |
The Toddler Terrace will offer younger guests a specially designated building area. The space will include smaller cardboard boxes and matching colorful foam blocks. This tiny builder zone features a reading nook with fun box-themed books, such as “Boxitects.” The Reading Nook will provide opportunities for families to read together and continue to learn about the key educational concepts explored in the exhibition. Outside the Box’s Costume Corner features a dress-up area where kids use imaginative role play to learn about different jobs associated with building and design. New in 2024, guests will be also able to document their visits with an Instagram worthy backdrop for pictures. |
Children’s Museum of Atlanta is dedicated to lessening its environmental effect, and they are making plans to reduce that impact. All boxes used in the exhibit will be recycled properly and exhibit signage will be used to educate others about the process of recycling and its influence on the environment. Any boxes in good shape after the closes will be used by the Museum or donated. |

Museum Admission: Purchasing tickets online is recommended. Phone booking is available with ample notice and will be booked via online reservation. Members must pre-book and will be able to redeem their $5 voucher online. Babies 11 months and younger and members are admitted for free and must reserve their free ticket online prior to arriving at the Museum. All daily programs are included in price of admission. Museum Hours: The Museum will operate in a timed entry model where guests can visit between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
