2015 HOT TOY: K'Nex Building Kits: Lincoln Logs & Mighty Makers

Breaking Gender Barriers and Building Friendships with K'Nex.

November 20, 2015
Disclosure: I received a complimentary LINCOLN LOGS 100th Anniversary Tin and Mighty Makers Ferris Wheel set to share at our sponsored #MKToyTime party and to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

I recently had the pleasure to host a Toy Time party, previewing this season's hottest toys. One of the hot toys this year, is actually a throwback toy - Lincoln Logs. I'm actually not familiar with them, but it seems like a lot of people are! Do you remember them from your childhood? They were a big hit with the boys and girls (and several of the parents)! Another big hit with both boys and girls was Mighty Makers Fun On the Ferris Wheel™ Building Set!

I loved that the kids joined in together to work as a group, regardless of age or gender. These K'Nex kits will make perfect Family Game Night additions. We do "Friends Game Night" where my 10-year-old invites over several friends to play with board games, puzzles, and kits like these . It builds friendship and is an inexpensive activity. It also gives the other parents a "Parents Night Out". Rotate it with other parents, and you'll soon be enjoing date nights again, while your kids are making life long friends!

These kits were fun and easy to make. The kids worked well together to build them, and as you may know, that's not an easy task. More times than not, group projects are a disaster, but these kits were simple, yet had multiple steps that the kids were able to work in tandem. It's great for sibling bonding as well.

Lincoln Logs
Part of the K'NEX family, LINCOLN LOGS were invented in 1916 by John Lloyd Wright, son of the famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and has been entertaining children for almost a century! LINCOLN LOGS has won numerous awards and encourages creativity, inspires imaginations, helps children develop fine motor skills and experience problem-solving.

In 2015, and for the first time in over 50 years, the real wood logs used in all LINCOLN LOGS sets started being made in the USA. At the #MKToyTime party we showcased the 100th Anniversary Tin. This set comes in a collectible tin which makes for easy and quick clean-up, as well as easy portability - take it to a friend's house or even to Grandma's. It comes with 327 pieces, and directions but the possibilities are endless if you choose to make your own original design. It's recommended for Ages 3+
The 100th Anniversary Tin retails for $44.99 and is available at Knex.com, Amazon and Walmart.

Fun On the Ferris Wheel™ Building Set
Ride all the rides with Emily and her bear, Cocoa, with the Fun on the Ferris Wheel™ Building Set. Emily loves riding all the amusement park rides and learning how they work. Mighty Makers buildings sets teach girls (and boys) about exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) concepts as they follow the adventurous story of the included figure and build with her along the way.

This kit includes 324 K'NEX parts and pieces, and directions. The box is not durable, but as it's meant to be displayed as a whole and not stored in pieces, you don't need to keep the box. It's recommended for ages 7+.

The Ferris Wheel Building set retails for $34.99 and is available at Knex.com, Toys'R Us, Amazon and Walmart. It's recommended for ages 7+.
