Recap: Disney On Ice: Frozen

October 17, 2014
We recently attended the Opening Night Performance of "Disney On Ice: Frozen" on Wed. Oct 8th, 2014 at Philips Arena.

We had planned to arrive at least 30 minutes early and have dinner at the attached CNN Food Court, but we barely made it to our seats before the show started! The traffic was insane! and literally at a standstill. I had never seen it so jam-packed before, not even for the Justin Bieber concert (at his height of popularity). Luckily they sold concessions there, including popcorn, cotton candy, and shaved ice - just be prepared to spend a hefty amount! - although most do come with souvenirs you get to keep, like a souvenir cup, Olaf mask, princess crown, or even Mickey ears!

My daughter wanted to dress up as Olaf, her favorite character. She decided to make her own costume - all you need is a white dress, and colored felt, then cut out shapes and glue - simple, easy, fast, and cheap! It only cost $4. Everyone loved the costume, and it stood out among the sea of Elsas and Annas. There were so many great costumes, many bought, and many also home made. Everyone was showing their #DisneySide!

The show started with an intro by Mickey and Minnie, and a few of their friends! Although it was great seeing the guest appearances of the others, it was apparent everyone was anxious to see Frozen! After the brief intro, the rest of the show was completely all about Frozen, playing out the movie on Ice.

It's just so amazing how they can capture the movie in a more condensed time and area, but they did it, and without leaving anything lacking! They even added a couple of lines not in the movie, but it only heightened the experience - and the kids got a hoot from that.

When "Let It Go" came on, I knew everyone in the audience would be singing along and they were - but you could still hear Elsa and the music clearly, she wasn't drowned out, which I was afraid of - I guess Philips Arena has great acoustics!

The Ice Skating was spectacular as it always is with Disney on Ice performances, but Kristoff really stole the show with his solo performance - and Marshmallow was a scene stealer too! Another scene that was great was one with the trolls. Again, I didn't know how Disney could bring rocks to life and have trolls there on ice, but Disney did it again - so magically, and smoothly - they are really geniuses!

The show was practically sold out at every performance and there's no question why. It's as amazing as the movie - and if given the chance I'm sure kids would be watching it as much as they watched the movie - countless times! It's definitely a not-to-be-missed show!
