RECAP: 3rd Annual Easter Egg Drop @ Apalachee High School, Winder

Hosted by River Hills Church and Chick-Fil-A Winder, Saturday, March 21st 2015

March 26, 2015
This past Saturday, March 21st 2015, we went to our first Easter Egg Hunt of the season at the 3rd annual Easter Egg Drop at Apalachee High School in Winder Georgia, hosted by River Hills Church and Chick-Fil-A Winder. The weather couldn't have been more perfect!

The gates opened at 11am, with organizers encouraging families to arrive 30 minutes early. We arrived a little after 11:30am. There were police officers directing traffic, which there was actually none of. We parked at the high school, and there was ample parking available. There was a little walk TO the football field but coming back after the egg drop it felt like an eternity. We can safely say that the event thoroughly entertained and exhausted the kids (and me).

As we approached the Football field, we had to first check-in. We could have pre-registered at CFA Winder earlier in the week, but we hadn't. It was a very fast and simple process, and it also entered us into a contest to win a YEAR supply of CFA. We didn't win.

As soon as we entered the field area, we headed to the CFA tent. The kids were already hungry. I ordered 2 CFA sandwiches, which were surprisingly hot.  Next to the CFA tent was a Lost and Found tent. I went over instructions with MacGirl with what to do if she should get lost. The staff and the volunteers working the entire event were so friendly and helpful, I felt very safe and comfortable.

We ate our sandwiches on the bleachers, and then headed to the activities area, where there were hula hooping, bubble blowing, CFA cows available for photo opps, bouncy houses, tattoos, face painting, and several tables including a karate school doing demonstrations, and Home Depot offering free Kids' workshop kits. There was also a photo booth.

The egg hunts were divided by age groups. MacGirl being in 4th grade was scheduled for the last egg hunt. She was never bored waiting though, as there were so many activities and she was with friends. As the helicopter approached for the egg drop, we were all told to sit on the bleachers. It circled over head a few times before dropping the eggs. The audience cheered, clapped, screamed and encouraged it to "drop the eggs", "drop the eggs".

When the kids were allowed on the field for the egg hunt, everyone was cordial and polite. There was excitement and anticipation, but there was no pushing and shoving. There was an estimated 4000 visitors present but it never felt crowded or congested. There was an estimated 100,000 eggs!  There were so many eggs that kids could refill their baskets or multiple baskets with dozens and dozens of eggs. Every kid left happy!

CFA Winder had offered free chicken sandwiches if you bought in empty eggs prior to the event. They were offering free chicken sandwiches again, if you returned your empty eggs to River Hills Church the following day.

I am a big supporter of CFA, and all that they do for the community. It was a free, fun, and egg-citing event. You definitely don't want to miss it next year. Just remember to bring the sunblock! and extra bags for all those eggs!
